Dog Coat Clippers - Guide To Buying and Using It On Your Canine

There are a variety of dog clippers that can be found in pet supply stores and online. The best type of clipper is an electric dog clipper. Be sure to choose a dog clipper that has interchangeable blades.

Before you begin trimming your dog’s coat with a clipper, your dog needs to be clean and have all mats and tangles brushed out of her coat before you start clipping. Doing so makes it easier for you to clip the coat evenly.

Before your trim your dog’s coat, here are some guidelines to get your started:
• Getting an older dog used to the clippers is difficult. Start clipping your dog as early as possible, even as a puppy.

• Compare the sound levels of different clippers and choose the quietest one. The loud buzzing noise will most likely scare your dog.

• Read about your dog’s breed to get an idea about how your dog’s coat should look and how to trim it that way.

• Have a professional groomer show you how your dog’s coat should be clipped.

• If you make a mistake, don’t worry, it will grow out. The main thing to be concerned with is using the clippers safely.

Here are some guidelines for safely using the clipper’s on your dog’s coat:
• Choose the clipper and blade that works best with your dog breed and specific type of coat.

• Dull clipper’s pull and tug at hair. Be sure the clipper blades are sharp.

• Switch blades if they get too hot during the clipping process.

The best way to practice using the dog clippers is to start by cleaning up the areas where your dog has already been trimmed but where the fur looks a little shaggy. From here you can determine how much hair the clipper and blade will take off.

If the hair removed is too little or too much, you can adjust it by switching to a different blade. The higher the number of the blade, the shorter the cut. Be sure you’ve chosen the appropriate clipper and blade for dog’s coat.

Talk to your dog and soothe him while you are clipping his hair. Distracting him with a treat may help as well. If at all during the clipping process your dog feels nervous or uncomfortable, then stop and try again later. Talk to him calmly and give him a food reward. Clipping your dog’s coat may take several attempts before he gets used to the sound of the clippers.
