Dog Barking Collar - Stop Your Dog Barking Problems

Bark collars don’t stop barking completely; they control barking. Barking is a natural way for dogs to communicate with us and other dogs, to let us know that they are bored or unhappy. Proper use of a no bark collar will teach your dog the difference between bad and good barking in a safe and humane way.

There are several types of dog bark control collars on the market. One type, and probably the one that most people have heard about is the electronic bark control collar. This collar is worn on your dog like a regular collar. The bark control collar picks up the vibrations from your dog’s vocal chords as it barks.

When your dog barks, this anti bark collar gives a mild static correction. Then if he continues to bark within 30 seconds, he will receive a slightly stronger correction. This process will continue up through six levels of correction.

The collar senses the vibrations in your dog's throat that happen only during barking. The vibrations cause the anti bark collar to send the electronic signal to your dog. Your dog will quickly learn that barking causes the signals, and that not barking is the way to avoid the signals. This bark control collar is only recommended for use on dogs over 8 pounds.

More advanced versions of the bark control collar also have sound included, so when your dog barks, he hears a sound and feels a vibration at the same time. These types of collars can be purchased in various sizes and colors and are water resistant. There are also “sport” bark control collars for very active dogs.

Another type is called the UltraSonic Bark Control. The UltraSonic Bark Control unit is only for indoor use. No collar is needed (although you should always have a regular collar on your dog). This device creates a "Bark Free" zone for one or more dogs within your home. The device emits a loud ultrasonic tone that only dogs can hear. This device is activated by the dogs bark or manually by the owner.

Finally, the newest type of bark collar on the market is called the Gentle Spray Citronella Barking Collar. It is safe, humane and remarkably effective. When your dog barks, the collar sprays a light mist of citronella scent in front of his nose. Dogs don't like this. The hissing noise startles them and dogs seem to dislike the smell. Most dogs figure things out very quickly and stop barking.

When using these types of bark control collars, always read the user’s manual and watch any training video to insure proper use of the collar on your dog. Never ever use this collar to punish your dog.
